It is a challenging task to consistently ensure the adhesion and performance of coating, lining and flooring systems (all termed “coatings” here) to concrete substrates. Adhesion and performance are required for all applications ranging from decorative through to primary containment, and includes flooring and secondary containment, an important part of the concrete coating market. The material, technology, assessment metheds, and coating requirements are extremely variable and difficult to consistently quantify. The technology of interest includes characterizing the concrete and the concrete surface, detecting and identifying
contamination, selecting and implementing cleaning and surface preparation methods, and most importantly, identifying and quantifying the specific requirements for successful coating performance.
