In recent years, the Modified McConomy Curves have been used to predict corrosion rates during sour processing operation. The McConomy calculation utilizes sulfur concentration (wt%), temperature and metallurgy to estimate a maximum anticipated corrosion rate for a given data set and process location. An eastern Canada oil refinery has been processing sweet and sour crude slates in alternating blocks. The refinery is well equipped with in-situ monitoring including ER Probes and weight loss coupons which are located in predicted high risk streams. In addition there is access to pre and post sour operation history in the form of radiography and ultrasonic thickness monitoring. This study will review field generated corrosion rate data and compare to predicted rates for the same locations.

Keywords: Sulfidation, McConomy Curves, Risk Based Inspection
