Reservoir souring due to water injection for secondary oil recovery is a clearly identified but, still, not
fully understood phenomenon. As a result of the routine use of seawater injection in North Sea fields
there are now large amounts of historic data charting the progress of souring in different reservoir types
with varied injection and treatment strategies.
The paper will present updated reservoir souring information for three installations, where data has been
collated and interpreted using different methods. A brief review of the different souring mitigation
techniques used in each field is presented.
