To assess the condition of a reinforced concrete structure, different non destructive diagnostic tools are available. Carrying out a potential mapping is a helpful method to locate areas with a high risk of corrosive activities. Usually openings in the concrete and cables are required to connect the reinforcement with a high resistance voltmeter. This implicates different disadvantages concerning the electrical connection and the manageability of the measuring device during the measurement. In order to assess single measuring points without comprising the potential map over the whole surface and to improve the handling during the measurement a method was developed to locate areas with a high risk of reinforcement corrosion without a wired connection to the reinforcement. Within this paper the authors demonstrate the procedure and the setup of a first probe that is called “Delta-Sensor”. Furthermore a new way for the visualization and interpretation of potential fields measured with the Delta-Sensor is shown.

Keywords: potential mapping, nondestructive testing, corrosion, reinforcement, reinforced concrete structures
