This paper looks at the role of internal corrosion predictive modeling (ICPM) as a critical element in the assessment of the condition of a petroleum pipeline. ICPM can be applied in accordance with NACE International ICDA (internal corrosion direct assessment) Standard Practices currently published or in development. The modeling allows for snapshots in time to assess the past and current corrosive degradation to which a petroleum pipeline has been exposed over discrete time intervals. This paper will discuss and identify some key projects which have validated the model as a premiere fluid hydrodynamic and mass transfer-based protocol capable of handing 2 and/or 3 phase sweet or sour oil and gas production operations.
