In this study, novel sulfur-free corrosion inhibitor packages have been developed for zinc bromide (ZnBr2) brines. This paper presents the results of laboratory evaluation of some of these corrosion inhibitor packages, primarily focusing on their effect on corrosion of carbon steels in ZnBr2 brines with densities of 17.0 to 18.2 ppg from 275 to 350oF (135 to 177oC). Also, the inhibitor packages were tested for their impact on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) materials such as HP1 13Cr tubular (110 ksi). Furthermore, their compatibility with elastomers was evaluated by elastomer exposure tests. The tests demonstrated that novel sulfur-free corrosion inhibitors can effectively control corrosion of carbon steels in high density ZnBr2 completion brines at high temperatures and are compatible with HP1 13Cr tubular (110 ksi) and commonly used oilfield elastomers.
