In pipelines transporting wet gas containing with H2S and CO2, electrochemical corrosion can occur as well as Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC). The presence of H2S and CO2 corrosion scales influences the process of hydrogen entry into the steel. This was studied with an electrochemical cell. Perfect covering of corrosion scale retarded hydrogen entry but loose corrosion scale improved it. The H2S and CO2 concentration in solutions could also influence the hydrogen entry process.
