Since 1998, a number of steam generator chemical cleanings have been performed in North America and worldwide with the objective reducing the corrosive impact of steam generator secondary side deposits on the steam generator tubes and to improve the heat transfer performance of the steam generator. During the last four years, cleanings have been performed on a number of different types of steam generators. These cleanings used a variety of cleaning processes including high temperature plant heat processes, external heat crevice cleaning processes and bulk deposit removal processes. Each is unique in nature due to cleaning objectives, deposits characteristics, system design and application strategy. This paper describes the experiences and results from four of the most recent steam generator chemical cleaning projects in the US since 1998.
