Electrochemical noise corrosion monitoring probes were installed in a continuous Kraft digester and one of its associated flash tanks. The noise probes and 31 process parameters were monitored for a period of one year, and two methods were used to investigate correlation between process parameters related to
the digester operation and electrochemical noise data. Traditional correlation coefficients proved inadequate for detecting any relationships among the parameters. Plotting the data as dimensionless multivariate time-series focused attention on times where changes in process parameters occurred in concert with changes in electrochemical noise parameters.
