This paper will discuss the formulation, use and application of Ultra High Solids and 100 % Solids coatings for internal tank linings. Three case histories demonstrate the use of plural component equipment, Ultra High Solids epoxies and 100 % Solids Polyurea.
During the past few years, there has been a call to reduce the amount of solvent allowed in paints. This is but one method for reducing air pollution. Solvents can be referred to as volatile organic compounds or "VOCs" Volatile organic compounds react with nitrogen oxides in sunlight to form smog, whish is considered a health hazard. In order to comply with new air quality regulations, paint manufacturers have been formulating paints with less VOC per gallon of paint.
This paper will discuss the formulation, use and application of Ultra High Solids and 100 % Solids coatings for internal tank linings. Reviewed will be 3 case histories, which demonstrate the use of plural component equipment, Ultra High Solids epoxies and 100 % Solids Polyurea. This new technology presents challenges to both the applicator and owner. Heated plural component application offers optimal application benefits. System can be applied in one coat with little or no VOC and minimal waste.

Corrosion and structural deterioration due to microbiologically influenced sulfate reduction and hydrogen sulfide gas oxidation to sulfuric acid are responsible for much of the expense related to santiatry sewage collection systems. This paper explains the mechanism of this biologically induced corrosion, its consequence, and methods to mediate it.
