The U.S. Air Force has developed and fielded a prototype mobile/modular bomb renovation facility for reconditioning general-purpose (GP) bombs at remote sites. The facility applies environmentally compliant "lifetime" sealed metallized coatings for corrosion protection of cast iron bomb casings. Fuze wells are protected with a zinc-rich "cold galvanizing compound". The prototype unit is currently undergoing field tests and evaluation at Andersen AFB in Guam.
