Over the past fifteen years, field dig programs have identified specific soil environments that are particularly potent in promoting near-neutral pH SCC of underground pipelines coated with polyethylene tape. The objectives of the research summarized in this paper were to evaluate the crack propagation behavior of one line pipe steel in the various susceptible soil environments and compare the test results with results of crack propagation tests performed in the standard near-neutral pH SCC environment (NS4).
