The use of brackish water cooling-systems in Maracaibo and the surrounding region is becoming increasingly imperative, in view of the fact that ffi'esh water is in limited supply. In view of recurring failures with different copper alloys in brackish water, electrochemical studies have been carried out in this medium with different materials - Super Stainless Steel Alloys (including the duplex 2507 UNS S/32750 and 6% molybdenum stainless steel UNS N/08367), Grade 2 Titanium (UNS
R/50400) and Cu-10Ni (UNS C/70600) - with and without chlorine treatment. The results indicate that the corrosion resistance in this medium decreases as follows: 6% Mo SS, Ti, duplex and Cu-10Ni.
