This paper describes the application and design of thermocouple placement for post curing operations which require elevated cure temperature, such as some fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) process equipment. The principles of thermocouples, such as the Seebeck Effect, the Peltier Effect, and the Thomson Effect, are discussed in detail. The advantages and disadvantages of thermocouples will be reviewed. In order to achieve good control over the temperature during the post curing process, the sensor must be correctly placed with respect to the work and heat source. Thermocouples should be attached on the vessel shell surface. Thermocouples and their attachment unit should be in direct contact with the vessel shell so that the temperatures can be measured where the heat is required. Careful consideration is required to position the thermocouples in such a way as to maximize the effectiveness of the cure and ensure that all components are heated as specified. Keywords: fiberglass reinforced plastic, thermocouple, post curing
