Alkalonamine plants may be subjected to several corrosion mechanisms that cause general and pitting corrosion, erosion and environmental cracking. Amine contamination and degradation are liable for these mechanisms in many plants. Corrosion control in this sort of plant is
dependable on many process variables and demands continuous assistance and many operational intervene actions.
This paper introduces an expert system developed to assist the
operational team in controlling the corrosion process in gas treatment plants. The expert system logs these variables from the process computer or Digital Control System - DCS, to infer diagnosis,
recommendations and alarms. The corrosion variables are acquired from plant instrumentation, laboratory chemical analysis and from corrosion monitoring techniques like Electrical Resistance and Electrochemical Noise. System outputs are sent to DCS console in order to advise operational team in correcting plant parameters. Reports and results are also distributed to corrosion experts, process engineers and plant managers. The system knowledge base uses rules and comprises all corrosion process occurring in this type of plant. Keywords: Amines, AIkalonamine, Corrosion, Corrosion Monitoring, Electrochemical
