Weldable super martensitic stainless steels are an alternative for use in flowlines for transport of corrosive oil and gas. Traditionally, these materials have been welded with duplex stainless steel filler materials, which have caused a strength undermatch of the weld metal compared to the base metal and its heat-affected zone (HAZ). Matching filler materials have thus been developed and such weldments have been tested. The results from SSC tests show that there is a potential and a need for further improvement of the welding parameters and the filler material composition. This to obtain comparable corrosion properties with traditional weldments with a duplex filler material. Keywords: Super martensitic stainless steels, SSC, welding.
