Within the Wastewater Treatment process the growth of soft fouling materials (algae) create problems such as Total Suspended Solids issues, false BOD readings, clogged pumps, and reduced flow rates through the weirs of clarifiers. Furthermore, dead or dying algae can cause additional odor concerns. This phenomenon has cost municipalities and taxpayer’s untold amounts of money due to the required maintenance dollars spent to correct this problem.

Corrosion under Insulation (CUI) is accelerated corrosion that takes place under insulation typically used to conserve energy, help with process control, and protect workers from temperature extremes. CUI is an issue for facility owners in many industries that use heat or cold in their industrial processes, including chemical processing, refining, fertilizer manufacturing, and power generation. Insulation used in these applications is generally mechanically attached to the substrate vessel or pipeline and is typically covered with cladding. Cladding is typically made out of metal or plastic and is applied to protect the insulation from physical damage and to keep water away from the insulation and substrate.
Silicone room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) polymer based coatings were designed with maintenance, and extending asset design life in mind. This technology can be tailored to be used as the backbone for a wide variety of coating applications by taking advantage of the inherent properties of RTV silicone.
Ice build-up on wind power blades can affect efficiency by reducing the aerodynamics of the blades. The sudden release of ice through centripetal force can result in dangerous projectiles in the large chunks of released ice.
Compared to other polymeric materials, silicone offers greater performance in harsh environments. Inherently silicone possesses a large coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), low modulus, and a low glass transition temperate (Tg). These attributes allow it to maintain elastomeric properties for continuous operation when exposed to extreme heat, cold, and/or UV radiation. Durability is the reason silicone materials are frequently employed as coatings and sealants.
