Control and mitigation of internal corrosion in the oil and gas production sector is of paramount importance for ensuring asset integrity and projected service life of components. Conventional techniques for internal corrosion control include chemical treatments such as the use of corrosion inhibitors environmental modification such as deaeration and pH control protective coatings and linings cathodic/anodic protection using better quality materials and design.

An unconventional non-intrusive internal corrosion mitigation technique has become available during the last 10 years which claims to solve typical problems in all types of water handling systems such as rust and corrosion scaling and fouling as well as microbiological problems. This technology is reported to have been developed empirically and uses specifically modulated molecular oscillations or lattice oscillations of the fluid for its beneficial effects. .

This paper presents the findings of a 5-month field trial that was undertaken at one of the Gathering Centers (oil and gas processing facility) of the Kuwait Oil Company to verify the effectiveness of the technology in controlling internal corrosion and bacteria proliferation problems particularly in the water handling unit of the facility.

Key words: Molecular Oscillations Corrosion mitigation rust scale.
