This work aims at assessing the effectiveness and impact of amine carboxylate based Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) system on protection ofstoragetank bottoms against soil-sidecorrosion in the preseence of impressed current cathodic protection.Lab-scale tank bottoms simulating the environment of single bottom storage tank setting on sweet sand with HDPE liner and impressed current CP system are considered in the study. Each tank is equipped with Electrical Resistance (ER) probe reference electrodeand corrosion coupon. By combining amine carboxylate based VCI system and impressed current cathodic protection system we try to understand the interaction between both systems and the impact of VCI on CP parameters such current demand and potentials. The studyincludes three replicates of unprotected tank bottoms as control bottoms protected with impressed current CP alone bottoms protected with amine carboxylate VCI alone and bottoms protected with impressed current and amine carboxylate based VCI.Visual and non-destructive surface profiling techniques such as magnetic flux leakage and ultrasonic will be done for each tank bottom before and after implementing any of the subject protection methods.The ultimate goal is to confirm the ability of amine carboxylate based VCI to complement impressed current CP in protecting bottom plates of API 650 tanks.
