Corrosion in high pressure vessels, such as pipelines, furnaces, and steam generators, is influenced by composition (material and atmosphere), pressure, temperature and flow. To simulate the corrosive conditions in high pressure vessels, a simple system is necessary to control the parameters simultaneously and measure instantaneous corrosion rate. This paper describes a simple, compact, and relatively inexpensive high-temperature, high-pressure rotating electrode (HTHPRE) system. It can be used with corrosive gases, such as H2S and CO2. Using this system, all the variables that influence corrosion rate can be easily controlled in the laboratory, so that the system can be used to predict field corrosion rates.
