The development of an accurate and user friendly computer model for the prediction of tubing life in gas condensate wells has led to its use as a tool for engineering applications. The USL Corrosion Model Phase V- version 2 provides the user with an accurate physical description of the flowing conditions inside a gas well in addition to the predicted tubing life, This information can be used to assist in determining the mechanism which is responsible for the predicted corrosion rate. With this kind of information, the engineer can then run “what if’ scenarios to estimate the effect various design options will have on the predicted tubing life. Some examples of the application of the model as an engineering tool have included: determining how close to erosional renditions a well might be operating, decisions on the use of carbon steel tubulars versus corrosion resistant alloys (CRA’s), results of various tubing size options, parameters used to determine when a continuous downhole injection system (CDIS) should be installed and at what depth the injection mandrel should be located, and to determine the protocol and test parameters needed for effective corrosion inhibitor selection for a specific gas well. Kevwords: CO2 Corrosion, Corrosion Rate Prediction, Erosional Flow, Engineering Tool, Design of Wells.
