Many oil and gas fields are being operated under severe corrosive conditions with H2Sand CO2. To mitigate their negative impact on operations, corrosion resistant alloys (CRAs) are commonly used.
However, selection of an appropriate CRAs for a given corrosive environment requires much engineering. The joint research between U.A.E. and Japan has been performed to find ways of optimizing selection of CRAs for oil and gas fields in Abu Dhabi. The research consists of the
laboratory test and field test utilizing a Dynamic Field Tester (DFT). The laboratory corrosion test condition was determined by the field research in Abu Dhabi. In this paper, the optimum material selection of CRAs in severe sour environments has been discussed based on the laboratory test results. The concept of the field test by DFT is also explained.
