At present, with the increasing in demand for natural gas, all gas production companies are increasing their efforts in natural gas exploration and development. Corrosion is one of the problems during the wet gas transporting, and this can be solved by adding corrosion inhibitor(CI) in most case. However, there are no standards for the Cis performance used in gas gathering and transportation pipelines, which may lead to some gapsbetweentheR&Dscientistsandtheneedsofcorrosioninhibitorusers. Based on the demand of some gas production companies for the CIs, this paper puts forward the performance requirements and corresponding indexes of Cis for natural gas gathering and transportation system, and given some advice on the evaluation method.

The polarity of the zinc-steel galvanic couple in hot aqueous solutions was published more than 20 years ago. It used an inorganic zinc primer coating that was applied under thermal insulation at elevated temperatures [30C-60C (86F-140F)].  Since the year 2000, industrial practices or standards do not recommend using inorganic zinc rich coatings under thermal insulation. Research has showed over the years that good practice of corrosion prevention under insulation is to apply an additional layer of a heat resistant modified epoxy or inorganic polymer coating as an additional barrier.

Since 2016 ISO Technical Committee (TC) 265 is working on standardization the whole CCS-process chain. Around 30 countries are working together to provide international guidelines. As ISO 279131 was the first standard finished within these activities it is already in the stage of first revision. The objective of ISO 27913 is “to provide specific requirements and recommendations on certain aspects of safe and reliable design, construction and operation of pipelines intended for the large-scale transportation of CO2 that are not already covered in existing pipeline standards such as ISO 136232, ASME B31.83, EN 15944, AS 28855 or other standards. Existing pipeline standards cover many of the issues related to the design and construction of CO2 pipelines; however, there are some CO2 specific issues that are not adequately covered in these standards. The purpose of this document is to cover these issues consistently. Hence, this document is not a standalone standard, but is written to be a supplement to other existing pipeline standards for natural gas or liquids for both onshore and offshore pipelines. This contribution shall provide information on the content, the current stage of the revision process, encourage to contribute to this standard and make listeners aware to consider the influence of ISO standard on documents currently in draft.

Details of a new protocol for evaluating the effectiveness of coatings to reduce corrosion of steel structures is presented in this paper. Basic concepts of accelerated testing specified in American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) standards and recent research investigations were used to develop a procedure that can provide conclusive results within 2400 hours of exposure as compared to more than 5000 hours in current practices.
