This Guide was created as a process in the rail industry to standardize and document equipment used for the preparation, application, and inspection of coatings and linings along with the calibration intervals suggested for each piece of equipment. It also lists equipment that is not used to collect data in a quality control capacity and that would not require calibration.
LIBS is a type of optical emission spectroscopy used to measure elemental concentrations in a material. LIBS operates by using a pulsed, focused laser that is fired at a sample with sufficient pulse energy as to create a plasma around the area struck. Bound atomic electrons are stripped from the atoms comprising the material. As the plasma cools, atoms recombine with electrons and in the process emit light in the UV, optical and IR regimes.
A two-year FHWA one-coat study was launched in November 2006 to evaluate various commercially available coating materials that can be applied as one-coat systems to new steel bridges. Seven one-coat systems, a 3-coat and a 2-coat control were selected and tested in three outdoor environments.
The use of ASTM 4060 Tabor Abrasor Testing has long been the standard for comparing the wear characteristics of different coating systems. This has been done with standard impregnated rubber disks to allow for the industry to look across companies and compare the abrasion resistance of different products. With different coating systems gaining acceptance into artificial lift well applications a desire for a similar test method that allows for evaluating the wear of coating on coating rod guide on coating and rod guide on liner has arisen. This paper will outline the development of a modified test protocol for ASTM 4060 to allow for comparible testing of different polymeric materials under defined repeatable conditions.
Have you ever wondered about the huge amount of money you spend in abrasives, logistics, recovery and cleaning of abrasives and the great amount of resources used during a project in the stage of surface preparation when you have a project for Maintenance of Storage Tanks? well, with this presentation you will learn about a great new technology available in the American market for this specific activity.
