Assessing Coating Breakdown Factors of Silicone Rubber Thermal Insulation for Enhanced Cathodic Protection in Subsea Equipment Operations

This study seeks to redefine coating breakdown factors for thermal insulation coatings, whose unique electrical insulation properties have been previously overlooked in DNV RP B401, resulting in potential miscalculations in anode requirements for cathodic protection systems.1 By comparing the insulation's performance with standards like DNV RP B401 and ISO 15589-2, and through testing and analysis, this study presents refined breakdown factors and insights into optimized anode placement in subsea structures like trees and manifolds.
