Electrochemical techniques have been used for investigating the inhibition of new ultra high
strength steel grade. This kind of steel has been developed with improved strength, toughness
and weldability in order to be used in well pipeline for oil production and transportation in
ultradeep water. Inhibitors play a key role in the control of corrosion associated with the
production and transport of crude oil and gas. The polarization resistance, inhibitor efficiency
and corrosion current density was determined in deaerated 3% NaCl + Diesel + inhibitors
saturated with CO2 at 50 oC. The electrochemical technique used was the linear polarization
resistance (LPR), obtaining the polarization curves and Tafel Extrapolation, in order to obtain
the slopes tafel and the inhibitor efficiency, this one was determined from current density (icorr)
values with and without inhibitor. It was found that the inhibitors displayed high inhibition
efficiencies.
