To reduce costs associated with maintenance and field replacement, temporary coating systems are often used to protect military vehicles against corrosion. The methodology for incorporating coating degradation sensor data into a corrosion management and planning tool will be addressed. Specifically, the use of a wireless motesbased intelligent distributed sensor network and the application of Bayesian Network data analysis tools will be briefly addressed. This paper will primarily address the ability to use a coating degradation sensor to asses coating failures. It is shown that the output of an electrochemical impedance based sensor can be used to determine failures of corrosion preventive compounds (CPCs) on boldly exposed surfaces as well as within occluded sites. Sensor output under controlled laboratory conditions will be presented.
