As part of the Internet, the World Wide Web (WWW) has become an important source of on-line information on pipeline corrosion control. The number of web sites presenting information on this subject that can be accessed extremely efficiently continues to show rapid growth. However, the use of the Internet for pipeline corrosion control extends well beyond rapid accessing of technical information from static web sites. Its use extends into the domains of advanced computing applications, communication and information systems for global project work, computer based training and e- commerce. Some of these functions are apparent when pipeline corrosion control is (appropriately) considered as part of the maintenance and repair function in asset management. The topics covered in this paper are not unique to pipeline corrosion control but also apply to other branches of corrosion engineering. Keywords: internet, information, project work, communication, training, e-commerce
