It provides essential information on the quality of the applied coating. Os requisitos desta Norma são aplicados ao sistema de gestão de qualidade de uma Empresa certificada, independentemente dos requisitos de projetos individuais, para Certificação de acordo com esta Norma. O sistema de gestão de qualidade de revestimento de uma Empresa, e não seus produtos, é certificado. A certificação de acordo com esta Norma não é uma inspeção nem um endosso do produto, da preparação de superfície ou da aplicação de revestimento. Esta Norma inclui todas as funções e responsabilidades que se aplicam à preparação de superfície e revestimento em um ambiente de oficina para aço novo ou aço que tenha sido revestido anteriormente, passado por limpeza com jato e esteja livre de tintas perigosas (com chumbo etc.) ao chegar à oficina. O escopo desta Norma não inclui o projeto, fabricação, manufatura, montagem, preparação de superfície e aplicação de revestimento em campo, a metalização ou galvanização, revestimento em pó para proteção temporária, anodização ou conformidade com regulamentos de segurança (OSHA) e ambientais (EPA). A repintura (incluindo a preparação de superfície) de itens revestidos anteriormente e devolvidos às instalações de revestimento da Empresa para retrabalho está incluída no escopo desta Norma.
